Schools of the West Lake Area
Schools and educational institutions of the West Lake Hills, Rollingwood, and Eanes ISD area — from the original Eanes Frame School in 1896 through the Eanes Rock Schoolhouse and the modern Westlake High School campus.
A consolidated thread through the educational history of the West Lake area — the schools, the teachers, the students, and the daily routines captured in oral histories and class photographs. Begins with the original 1874 Eanes School (later the 1896 Eanes Frame School), runs through the 1928 Eanes Rock Schoolhouse that served the community until 1969, and continues with the modern Westlake High School and Eanes ISD campuses.
Documents in this collection draw on the Eanes History Center photographic record (interior class photographs, lunch-on-the-rocks snapshots, field-trip wagon shots) and on oral-history interviews recorded by Dorothy Depwe and others in the 1970s and 80s.
